One Room Challenge Reveal

Well we have completed our first One Room Challenge and I can’t believe it’s done. Thank you Linda Weinstein and Better Homes and Gardens for including us in this event. We’ve made it through teaching ourselves to tile, hang grasscloth and how to clean up epic paint spills.

Let’s remember how it used to look when we bought the home a little over a year ago…

And here it is now!

Large artwork from Minted called Drop The Ball by Keren Toledano. This artwork felt like the starting point for the whole kitchen.

It has been infused with color and personality while still remaining functional which is so important for a kitchen. I’m so happy that we were able to re-use the cabinets and the long wood pulls my dad made for us add so much character.

The tiled open shelving is definitely one of my favorite parts, big thank you to The Tile Shop ( and all of our sponsors ) for providing us with everything we needed to make this possible. These rattan Hula Hoop light fixtures from Corbett Lighting and grasscloth wallpaper from Pacific Designs were the perfect natural balance to the tile.

Creating additional storage was so important to us so adding this console from Nadeau and beverage center from Build.com was a huge help.

Light Fixtures from Hudson Valley Lighting and Artwork 10,000 Grains by Bryn Namavari from Minted

Excuse the messy floors which still have a haze of paint and flecks all over them from the spill.

You’ll notice in the next photo our door mat thoroughly tells the tale of spilled paint. The curtains from Calico Corners and rug from Swoon Rugs were also victims to the paint but luckily escaped without any damage.

One of my favorite things in the kitchen is this island we built from scratch.

Here’s a reminder of the “incident”. When you forget an entire gallon of paint is sitting on the top of your ladder.

All of that spilled paint for one delightfully simple ceiling mural. I didn’t want it to compete too much but just add some nice color accents to tie it all together.

I’ll finish with this cute little shelf we added above the stove that holds all of the very old bottles that were found buried in our backyard during our renovation of that area. So much history in New Orleans!

I hope you were able to find some inspiration through all of this, possibly some how-tos and some what-not-to-dos as well ;)

There were 19 other featured designers, as well as 100’s of guest participants, so be sure to go check out their transformations as well!
